ok
i realize i haven’t been updating this thing to often, but i assure you the wedding is still on.
my biggest concern at this point is the guest list. we invited a little over 200 people. the magic number is some where between 150 - 175. at this point with the rsvps, we potentially have a guest list of 209. obviously some people will decline… but… will enough people decline?!...

jezebel article showing "off beat" brides aren't... →
im on board with this. it basically says that “off beat” is just another way to embrace the ridiculous wedding industry without looking lame for doing so only because some aspects of the wedding aren’t “traditional”.

reception music
so i went to a wedding this weekend (see below for the only photo taken at said wedding). pretty good music… things get a little fuzzy for me right after the ceremony (when we started drinking), but from what i can remember, there was a lot of michael buble and classics. good times. and a sweedish polka… yep.
i also remember going to the bride’s shower a few weeks beforehand...

catering!
so let’s talk food. this is definitely a large piece of any wedding. yes, we are serving food. the menu? hawaiian barbeque. why? because it’s brian’s favorite and i’m not all too particular on what we eat.
the ‘preferred’ list
we haven’t made a lot of progress in this area, which makes me nervous, but i’ll tell you what i’ve learned...

registries
i’ve been gone for awhile, but that’s not because we haven’t been planning. mostly it’s been little things here and there and small blips of drama (nothing near what i just watched on bridezillas, but interesting and a little too personal to be blog worthy), so nothing much to report. sorry. BUT, i did start registries and here’s what i’ve learned.
an odd...

the taste test!
this afternoon brian and i went to check out a bakery in search of a cake. for those of you who’ve never shopped for a cake before, here’s how it works (usually and this time around).
when we got there, we were given two large binders with photos of about 500 cakes. yeah, i know, a lot of cake. the cakes had notes with them, describing the insides, the outsides, how many servings,...

buying wedding cakes
Let’s talk about cakes and what i’ve learned about them so far…
wedding cakes are fucking expensive
so i’ve started the process of looking for a baker. it’s kinda fun because cakes are inherently a good time. but, breaking it down seems like a lot. typical pricing starts at $5 per slice. obvi the baker doesn’t cut the cake and count the slices, then...

sage advice from soo
i got this email shortly after i tumbl-ed about dress shopping. it’s from soo and was titled “dude”:
you cannot put your wedding dress on tumblr! your wedding is the big
unveiling! don’t be stupid! everyone will be in suspense.
as such, no dress pics for you! but that won’t stop me from posting every other dress i tried on. hehe.

from the wealth of knowledge that is the gilmore family, here’s a little tidbit for yall. when congratulating a newly engaged couple, you should say congrats to the man and best wishes to the lady. congrats for the dude because, hey, she said yes. and best wishes for the lady bec you hope it goes well… congrats is sort of like saying congrats on landing a husband. bit of a faux...
