shoes! if you know anything about me, you would know shoes are hard to come by for me (a shocking concept for some of you out there, i know). so this idea of finding nice-ish shoes for the wedding has been haunting me.
but, it’s easter time so white shoes are back in style and i figured it was time to start looking. surprise! i found a pair in a matter of a 20 minute visit to… where else? payless.
the great thing about payless is that if you end up not liking your shoes, you can just toss em because you bought them on sale for $9.99 anyway. everyone wins!
so, here they are, and they fit all the requirements!
1. they’re pretty comfortable.
2. they’re nice looking
3. they’re not black.
hooray! check another thing off the list.
this particular dress, while nice, had a couple things that bothered me. firstly, you might not be able to tell, but the thing was HUGE. the dress was extra long, as was the petticoat, which meant tons of extra fabric - so much so i could hardly walk. i guess if i had ultimately bought that dress, it would be hemmed and not so bad. but, i think i would still feel like i was swimming in fabric.
anyway, the second thing i didnt like, and am posting about, was the boobs. now, let me tell you something about wedding dresses that i was never told and that i was a little surprised by: some come with boobs. and we’re not talking padding, oh no. we’re talking wiring. this particular dress felt very…. 50s, in that its boobs were cartoonishly torpedo shaped.
a few of the dresses i tried came with boobs, and i was constantly poking and prodding at them. they’re made with some kind of wire or really hard material such that if you poked it down, it would pop back out. it was comical and i refused to get a dress with fake boobs. one of the dresses in particular, can’t remember which, was significantly bigger than my chest. while flattering, it’s unnecessary.
anyway. boobs. who knew?
sage advice from soo
i got this email shortly after i tumbl-ed about dress shopping. it’s from soo and was titled “dude”:
you cannot put your wedding dress on tumblr! your wedding is the big
unveiling! don’t be stupid! everyone will be in suspense.
as such, no dress pics for you! but that won’t stop me from posting every other dress i tried on. hehe.
the dress
so, i went to david’s bridal in san jose today with my mom and sister. after 2hours and about 8 dresses, we found the one.
this dress is not what i expected
i originally wanted something simple. not a lot of lace, not a lot of beading, probably short (tea length). something just really… plain, i guess. something like this. this dress, still to my surprise, is none of these things. it’s long. it’s got a layer of lace that extends to a train of lace. it has quite a bit of beading. it’s ivory. it’s form fitting throughout, which is especially unexpected. who knew something like this would actually be pretty flattering on me?
this dress ups the ante
regardless of what i saw, i was going to go simple. im not one to be swept up into the emotionality of things, but… i was. don’t get me wrong, i didnt cry or gasp or anything, give me a little credit. but i did end up gettin a really, really formal dress. this dress is serious. like, holy crap, im getting married serious. it’s kinda 40s style, glam and all. what can i say? i guess i like being pretty, or something. anyway, this dress means we’re indeed having a wedding, and damnit, it’s going to be a big deal.
this dress was on sale
not gonna lie, that was kind of a selling point, too. priced at $699 (by the tag), the “consultant” helping me said it was probably $499. lo and behold, with a little hesitation by me, it ended up being $399. plus tax and the garment bag, total cost: $443.
photos forthcoming.
i made an appointment on friday afternoon to try on wedding dresses at david’s bridal in san jose. if i dont have any luck there, then we’re going to do some online shopping as i can’t really see myself going to more than one wedding dress store in my lifetime. could go down as the best or worst idea i’ve had.
