tainted love by soft cell
we belong together by mariah carey
went home sunday and my dad presented me with a cd of songs to play at the wedding. his original set list was 10 hours long (!!!!!!) but he pared it down and gave me a cd filled with about 25 songs for my listening pleasure.
While some of the songs are nice, they have weird connotations… for example, “love and marriage” by frank sinatra will forever be linked to that show, married with children and images of al bundy with his hand down his pants.
BUT, dad did manage to find me some gems i had not heard, ever, and that were greatly appreciated. such as this one, by the platters. on repeat!
so i went to a wedding this weekend (see below for the only photo taken at said wedding). pretty good music… things get a little fuzzy for me right after the ceremony (when we started drinking), but from what i can remember, there was a lot of michael buble and classics. good times. and a sweedish polka… yep.
i also remember going to the bride’s shower a few weeks beforehand and she hadn’t come up with a playlist for the reception yet and was a little worried. not wanting to freak out a few weeks beforehand (which i very well might, the bride i know was pretty calm and stuff, but i doubt i’m as… cool-headed as she is), we’re going to start a list here and now.
so… i’ll add things when i think of them and tag accordingly. feel free to voice your opinion and i’ll take it in to consideration.
the rules (for me and you!):
1. we’re going for actual songs, not just artists and genres, folks.
2. dance-ability. it will be tested in my living room. what i’ve noticed is that there are lots of great songs out there, but not all of them are dance-able, so keep that in mind.
3. the ick factor should be kept at a minimum. ick meaning stuff that’s overplayed in general and at weddings. sorry, we’re not doing the chicken dance. though we can do popular stuff, let’s not try to be too annoying.
4. we’re at a wedding, people! let’s keep it PG. and about love, not breaking up and hating exs. that’s probably no fun.
5. we need slow songs too!
as a side note, please don’t make me make you dance. it’ll be pretty embarrassing… for you. so i suggest you drink up at the wedding and get out on the floor asap. you’ve been warned. i know extrapickles doesn’t have a problem with this. follow his lead.
